Testimonials I had wanted to attend PCT for 7 years and when I finally did, it exceeded my expectations! I took the class hoping for 3 things: first, that my coaching skill would be elevated to a higher level; second, that I would be personally transformed; and third, that I would establish new meaningful relationships with other coaches. All these things took place – and not just as an event occurring at a particular moment in time, but as a seed that was planted and continues to grow and bear fruit. The initial residential experience established us as a deeply connected group. It laid a foundation of trust and openness that facilitated a deepening connection throughout our classes and practice together during the months to come. The reading and related classes were incredibly enriching. The faculty was outstanding. The weekly online classes became a moment in the week we all looked forward to. The closing residential session was a reunion of dearest friends that took us to new depths of awareness and new vistas of personal vision. Like the ripples from a stone thrown in a pond, I will be feeling the effects of my PCT class for quite some time as I continue to learn and grow. I am incredibly grateful to have taken this class. Joanna Thomas, NBC-HWC

What is a Health and Well-Being Coach? Schedule Health & Well-being Coach Lifestyle Medicine Coach Professional Coach "Partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential." Free Information Session - International Coach Federation What do health and well-being coaches do? Professional health and well-being coaches have long been recognized for their skills in helping athletes and executives perform at their best. Now professional health and well-being coaches are helping people reach their best self. Coaches are trained to help clients develop and implement personal wellness plans by: accepting and meeting you where you are today introducing the mindful thinking and doing work that builds confidence defining a higher purpose for well-being uncovering your natural desire to be well tapping into your innate desires and drives collaborating to address emotional and physical health together drawing a personal wellness blueprint setting realistic and achievable goals harnessing the strengths needed to overcome obstacles seeing obstacles as opportunities to learn and grow building a supportive environment for success Health and wellness coaches are practitioners and life-long students of coaching psychology, a field focused on the scientific study of happiness and well-being. Find a Coach Skillsets of a health and well-being coach Great coaches have several skills you will quickly notice. Coaches: are great listeners and enjoy your stories foster self-acceptance and self-respect arouse, engage, energize, and challenge you to reach higher at the right moment have a bird dog's ability to sniff out your strengths, values, and desires are playful when appropriate take risks and ask courageous questions don't rescue you from emotional muck - sometimes you need to sit in it for a bit to energize your desire to change know how to celebrate your successes Health and well-being coaching process The process of working with a health and wellness coach evolves through several stages: You provide background information through various assessments, so that you and your coach are well-informed on the key issues, including medical considerations, as appropriate. During the first 60-90 minute coaching session, you identify your priorities and develop a personal wellness plan including a vision, three month goals and the first steps. In subsequent 30-40 minute coaching sessions, each week, month, or quarter, you and your coach review the progress toward your vision and goals, explore and resolve the most pressing issues, learn something new, and then agree on a set of goals for the following week. You will enjoy plenty of "ah-ha" insights along the way.

  • I am a Wellcoach | Wellcoaches

What does it mean to be a Wellcoach®? When we founded Wellcoaches in 2000, we planted foundational values and qualities into the meaning of being a Wellcoach®, embodied and expressed by our twin registered trademarks: Wellcoach® and Wellcoaches®. As the Wellcoaches team and community has grown and matured to 15,500 strong in 50 countries, the meaning of being a Wellcoach is brighter, stronger, more impactful, and influential than ever. Coaching Excellence A good place to begin is our deep commitment to coaching excellence in every moment of every coaching session. Being a Wellcoach means first and foremost - delivering enlivening, resonant, generative and high-impact coaching sessions that expand minds and change behaviors in ways that last. Our Wellcoaches core coach training program is beautifully choreographed to enable confident coaching in a most engaging, efficient, and affordable way. At the outset, we developed a rigorous coaching skills exam to earn the Wellcoaches certification, far beyond national standards, serving as our continuous feedback loop for training excellence and ongoing innovation. The Wellcoaches membership program keeps up an excellent pace year after year, translating new classes and courses into professional development, continued learning, and ever-growing impact. Empowered by our deep and exceptional bench of 30+ expert coach trainers and mentor coaches, being a Wellcoach means bringing excellence to everyone we touch. Coaching Psychology Manual Scientific Excellence In the early 2000s, the Wellcoaches team was among a small handful of coach trainers globally that began integrating the best of science into coaching competencies, tools, and processes. A team of ten Wellcoaches faculty worked for eight years to build the first peer-reviewed Wellcoaches Coaching Psychology Manual , published by Wolters Kluwer and endorsed by the American College of Sports Medicine. Being a Wellcoach means learning from the pioneering leaders of coaching excellence who started the field and "wrote the book." Our manual has become the field's manual, having sold 50,000 copies. Every year, 4,000 coaches buy our Wellcoaches manual. The third edition is underway. Being a Wellcoach means being out in front in translating science into coaching excellence. From 2010 until now, 23 research teams have studied the Wellcoaches protocol delivered by Wellcoaches coaches, and published significant health and well-being outcomes in peer-reviewed journals, bringing evidence to support all Wellcoaches-certified coaches. Being a Wellcoach means dedication to excellent coaching outcomes. Competency Excellence Two prominent psychologists, Joe Ciarrochi and Steve Hayes, developed a bold, new framework that every Wellcoach can apply. Their framework distills clinical and positive psychology interventions into six psychological change processes: self, attention, motivation, cognition, emotion, behavior. Wellcoaches competencies are thus broad and deep, and keep expanding, marking our excellence. Prominent scholar (emotional intelligence, leadership, coaching) Richard Boyatzis recently published a coaching study with medical students demonstrating that a coach's competencies (personal capacities rather than tasks and knowledge) predict positive coaching outcomes. Wellcoaches emphasizes personal capacities as a foundation of excellent coaching. For a Wellcoach, inspiration, vision, compassion, creativity, generativity, wisdom, well-being, and growth are WHO WE ARE not just what we do. Well-being Excellence While scientific models of well-being abound, what's generally accepted is that well-being of mind, body, work, and life are an interdependent human (and planetary) system of health (objective metrics) and well-being (subjective states). Being a Wellcoach means appreciating that all humans share the common purpose of well-being, whatever you pursue - performing eye surgery, designing bridges, writing code, teaching students, fixing power lines, leading a corporation, planting trees, raising children, cleaning teeth, or coaching others. Drawing on self-determination theory , well-being excellence means setting a compass in the direction you want to take yourself (better health, well-being, professional or leadership development, etc). The coaching journey integrates your experiences well along the way into a better self. Wellcoaches also models Jack Bauer's profound scholarly work in defining the transformative self , which pursues thriving and development in four ways - happiness, love, wisdom and growth: Being a Wellcoach means to enjoy life's gifts and pleasures, to love people and work (do what matters most), to generate wisdom (diversify perspectives and increase objectivity), and to grow (actualize and integrate the potential in each moment). Leading Excellence A key reason why the field of health and well-being coaching has accomplished what it has over the past two decades - integrating science and well-being into coaching, bringing together stakeholders , establishing national standards , curating important research , shaping the roles and impact of coaches, reducing burnout , and moving coaches into medical practices - is because CEO Margaret Moore is a Wellcoach, and volunteered one third of her time to building the field since 2009. Today, Wellcoaches leaders, faculty, and coaches contribute in many ways to field-building and field-leading at a critical moment of our field's history. We set trends, not follow them. Being a Wellcoach means moving the field forward as leaders, every day. Career Excellence Wellcoaches coaches have vibrant opportunities and coaching careers in private practice, employer wellness, digital health, and healthcare. Employers seek out Wellcoaches coaches because our coaching excellence stands out in a crowd of coaches. Wellcoaches coaches help each other with career opportunities, one of the many reasons why the Wellcoaches community contributes to the excellence of every one of us as coaches. Being a Wellcoach means standing out for coaching excellence. I am a Wellcoach. We are Wellcoaches. We mean coaching excellence.

Physicians as Coaches: Improving Physician Well-being and Impact I'm ready to become a coach Today the professional lives of physicians demand the highest-ever levels of internal resources and well-being to meet the growing challenges faced by patients, as well as healthcare practices and organizations. As a Physician Coach, you can become a new force for good - helping your patients, colleagues, and leaders tap into their deepest motivation, draw out their strengths, set their compass on their best selves, and shift their mindsets and behaviors to enable positive, lasting change. All the while, you will be transformed through your own self-coaching journey, rediscovering your deepest values and resources, and rising above the tide of burnout. Why become a Physician Coach? Improve your own well-being. Learning about, and applying, key coaching concepts like self-compassion, growth-mindset, and wellness visioning will inevitably have a positive impact on your own life. Increase patient satisfaction and engagement. Your patients will experience you as a more empathetic listener who delivers patient-centered care. Change the culture of your organization. Gain valuable skills for communicating with colleagues and building trusting, collaborative relationships. Enjoy your professional development and earn CMEs. Our Module, Core Coach Training is approved for 27.5 PCs. Where are our Physician Coaches? Wellcoaches has trained and supported hundreds of physicians as coaches through Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Columbia University, Johns Hopkins, Stanford University Hospital, Emory University Hospital, Beth Israel Hospital, and members of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine community. Curious about your own well-being? Wellcoaches has developed a validated inventory to support you in reflecting upon your own well-being in the areas of life, work, body, and mind. Take the Inventory or share it with a patient! It fostered both personal and professional growth. It left myself and my physician colleagues with the skills and confidence to jump right into the complicated world of helping physicians (and everyone else) navigate their distress, and enabled us to help others find the solutions they need to fulfill their dreams. I would gladly recommend Wellcoaches to anyone who asks. Kerri Palamara McGrath, MD Director of Physician Well-being, Massachusetts General Hospital Collaborating with Wellcoaches has transformed our institutional approach to supporting physician well-beng. The physicians who underwent training and certification are newly empowered to walk this journey toward meaning, purpose and engagement with colleagues and with themselves. They are well prepared to work 1:1 with their colleagues and engage in group coaching, which has been invaluable for improving system-level issues within the institutions.
